Description
PAIR OF BRASS GUÉRIDONS WITH FOSSILIZED BLACK MARBLE TOPS
With eagle head terminals over taloned feet
Probably French, late 19th century
29 1/2" H x 29" diameter
A pair of Neoclassical style guéridons, each surmounted by a circular black marble tops with tiny fossilized shells found in the polished stone. These are set within a molded brass rim surround. The tripod bases are formed by gently arched solid brass supports terminating in finely cast eagle talons, the upper ends modeled as eagle heads grasping suspension rings. A smaller circular shelf is set midway between the supports, unifying the structure and echoing the marble of the primary surface. The legs are joined by a shaped stretcher with a central ring of leaves surrounding berries, providing stability while maintaining the lightness of the overall profile.
Condition: Fine condition. Entirely diassembled in our restoration studio, all elements polished and cleaned, all screws checked for strength, iron bracing brackets blackened. All polished elements have been left untreated so that they can naturally oxidize and mellow. A very fine presentation, ready to place.
