Description
This rustic side table, crafted in France during the 19th century, is hewn from solid elm and exemplifies the direct, utilitarian beauty of vernacular craftsmanship. The substantial top preserves its natural, irregular contour, animated by expressive grain patterns and a warm patina shaped by time and use. Four sturdy, faceted legs support the top and are joined by a central stretcher secured with traditional pegged construction, revealing the marks of hand tools and rural workmanship. Both functional and sculptural, the table would have served as a modest work or occasional table in a provincial interior and comfortably accommodates one to two people when used for seating or informal dining. All our rustic furniture has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term care.
