Description
A Rare Set of 3 Exceptional Mid-Century French Alps Mounted Antlers attributed to Jean-Charles Moreux circa 1930. These Elegant Animal Sculptures are fascinatingly presented to create a complimentary set of 3 wall sculptures. The shield form bases are all the same dimensions to preserve uniformity and each wood base is patinated by hand in gold to achieve a giltwood effect. To balance this the antlers are mounted into white plaster bases fixed to the shield backs presenting a pure but dynamic aesthetic. The antlers themselves are different in configuration and size and work compellingly as a group. Jean-Michel Frank frequently worked in plaster, as did Moreux, but Moreux was fascinated by the natural world, primitivism and frequently brought the "outdoors indoors" and the "indoors outdoors", thus keeping a sense of visual surprise in his home and garden designs. These animal sculptures are meant to be wall mounted and to surprise and fascinate.
Dimensions: Gilt wood Shields are H 11' x W 12" x D .75". The largest antler is H: 13.5 x W 18.5 x D 13". The second is: H 14.5 x 15.5 x D" and the 3rd is: H 9" x 9 x 9. -
