The San Francisco Fall Antiques Show, 2013.

The distinguished San Francisco Fall Antiques Show (SFFAS) will kick off its 33rd iteration with a preview gala on Wednesday, October 22. The event will give collectors, enthusiasts, and SFFAS supporters exclusive access to the show’s remarkable offerings before it opens to the public for its four-day run on Thursday, October 23. Proceeds from the gala will benefit Enterprise for High School Students, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that helps Bay Area youths develop life skills vital to the successful transition from high school to college and the world of work.

Held in the Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion in the upscale Marina District, the SFFAS will bring together approximately sixty preeminent dealers from across the United States and Europe. Exhibitors, including Arader Galleries (San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York, Houston), G. Sergeant Antiques (Woodbury, CT), Georg Jensen Antiques (Copenhagen), and Steinitz (Paris), will present an array of fine art, antiques, and design elements, spanning all styles and periods.

This year’s show will be centered around the theme “The Rush of Gold: Precious Metals in Art & Antiques.” The gold and silver rushes of the 19th century played a vital role in shaping “The Golden State” of California as well as the city of San Francisco. Found across every genre of art and antiques, precious metals will be the centerpiece of the SFFAS’ Show Exhibition. Historic pieces from the rush eras and a variety of decorative objects that explore the beauty and versatility of these precious metals will be on view. The Grand Entry Hall display, which is being designed by the New York and San Francisco-based architecture firm Ike Kligerman Barkley, will also be informed by the “Rush of Gold” theme.

The SFFAS will feature a full-range of programming, including Designer’s Saturday, a portion of the show dedicated to design-driven talks, tours, and lectures. One of the highlights of Designer’s Saturday will be a panel discussion led by celebrated San Francisco-based interior designer Suzanne Tucker. Tucker, who is a member of the SFFAS’ advisory board and chairperson of the Designer’s Circle, is known for her passion for architecture and design as well as for her timeless yet modern style. Tucker’s award-winning projects have been featured  in numerous magazines and books, including her own publications "Rooms to Remember: The Classic Interiors of Suzanne Tucker" and "Suzanne Tucker Interiors - The Romance of Design."

"Suzanne Tucker Interiors - The Romance of Design."

During the event “Celebrating Icons of Design,” Tucker will lead two inimitable designers -- Charlotte Moss and Robert Couturier -- in conversation. Based in New York City, Couturier has cultivated a trademark continental and international style that bridges the gap between Old World elegance and contemporary design while Moss, who is also based in New York, is recognized for her warm and decidedly luxurious style, which has roots in her Southern heritage. The discussion will give attendees an unprecedented look at the lives and interests of two of the design world’s most inspiring and accomplished figures. According to Tucker, she will “delve deep into what makes these two iconic designers tick, what inspires them, how they individually approach the design process, and what drives them creatively on a daily basis.” “Celebrating Icons of Design” will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m.

Other eagerly awaited SFFAS events include a cocktail reception and talk with Larry French of Buccellati jewelry on Thursday, October 23; a young collectors night on Friday, October 24; and book signings with art and design world luminaries, such as lifestyle guru Aerin Lauder, jewelry expert Juliet Weir de La Rochefoucauld, and design icon Paul Vincent Wiseman.
