Holiday House was founded in 2008 by Iris Dankner—an interior designer and ardent supporter of breast cancer research—who felt that there was a lack of high-profile design events in the New York City area benefitting women’s issues. Since its inception, Holiday House, which supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, has invited leading interior designers to transform the historic Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side using striking modern and contemporary furniture, decorative objects, and fine art. Holiday House, widely regarded as one of the finest showhouses in the country, expanded to the Hamptons three years ago. Holiday House NYC runs from November 17, 2016 to January 8, 2017, with an Opening Night Party on November 16 from 6:30 - 9:30pm; see below for more details.

For its ninth iteration, Holiday House will head to a new location in Soho. The showhouse will be held in two adjacent, state-of-the-art mansions, which are part of the 10 Sullivan development. Designed by the celebrated, NYC-based architects Cary Tamarkin and Montroy Andersen DeMarco, the site is owned by Atlantic Investors LLC and has been developed by Property Markets Group and Madison Equities. Dankner says, “With our Holiday House showhouses, our goal is always to bring interior design to life in new and fresh ways. After eight years of producing the event in the beautiful and historic Academy Mansion on the Upper East Side, we jumped at the chance to make a move to Soho and do something with more of a ‘downtown’ vibe. This enables us to reach a new audience and grow our support base for the most important aspect of this event – raising money to fight breast cancer.”

The Development and Architectural Team adds, “With their unprecedented dimensions, classic modern aesthetic, and coveted Soho location, The Sullivan Mansions are a one-of-a-kind phenomenon in the residential landscape of New York City. Designed for truly gracious living, these unique homes appeal to a desire for privacy, a sense of individuality, an affinity for modernity, and an appreciation of history. As New York City celebrated its Gilded Age from 1890 to the early 1900s, the mansion was considered the only acceptable way for society's upper echelons to live. . . Today, The Sullivan Mansions take their cue from this privileged tradition of expansive living.”

Legendary fashion icon Iris Apfel is Holiday House's honorary chair. Design chairs are acclaimed international architect and interior designer Robert Couturier and renowned designer Geoffrey Bradfield. The interior designers being featured for the 2016 Holiday House include Campion Platt, Patrick Mele, Geoffrey Bradfield (Bradfield & Tobin), Fernando Santangelo, Harry Heissman, and Joyce Silverman. Each room in Holiday House will be inspired by a holiday or day of personal meaning to each designer. Ultimately, Holiday House strives to illustrate that every day should be treated with as much reverence as a holiday and every day without breast cancer should be celebrated.

In addition to an exciting new location, Holiday House will welcome Incollect.com as the exclusive presenting sponsor for the first time. Founded in 2014, Incollect is a digital marketplace where interior designers connect and forge meaningful relationships with dealers of fine art, antiques, and modern and contemporary design, as well as with other design professionals and collectors. Like Holiday House, Incollect spotlights all of its designers’ unique approaches and singular aesthetics as well as the transformative and inspirational nature of interior design. To further benefit the design industry, on November 4, Incollect will launch its In The Trade program for interior designers and architects. The first initiative of its kind, In The Trade gives designers and architects unprecedented access to dealers' inventory, new tools to manage sourcing and communications, plus marketing opportunities.
