This Monday a select group of American art dealers will host a collective open house on the Upper East Side during New York’s American Art Week. "Just Off Madison" will give clients, colleagues, and art enthusiasts an opportunity to visit the dozen participating galleries and view museum-quality offerings in intimate spaces. Galleries will feel as inviting, informal, and intimate as living rooms – a perfect setting for admiring the magnificent works on display.

Arthur Parton (1842-1914), Anglers on a River, Sunset, 1870. Oil on canvas, 7 x 14 inches. Signed and dated lower left: "Arthur Parton '70." Offered by Avery Galleries at Just Off Madison.

The twice-yearly event coincides with the American art auctions at Sotheby’s and Christie’s, and has taken place since 2008; the spring installment is held in May. Locations of participating galleries span a dozen blocks of Madison Avenue, from East 67th Street to East 79th Street.

John Marin (1870-1953), Sail Boat and Sea, Maine, 1938. Oil on canvasboard, 16 x 12 inches. Signed and dated lower right: "Marin 38." Offered by Debra Force Fine Art at Just Off Madison.

Among the 12 leading dealers are Avery Galleries, Conner - Rosenkranz, LLC, Debra Force Fine Art, Inc., and TAYLOR | GRAHAM, all of whom will offer a rich and diverse selection of American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from the 19th century through the mid-20th century. Laura Adams of Avery Galleries shares some insight into the material that will be on display, noting "The diverse selection of artworks will represent our wide-ranging collection of American art, which includes Luminist marine paintings, trompe l’oeil still lifes, Pennsylvania Impressionist landscapes, and even the occasional decorative object, such as this Max Kuehne screen (below)."

Max Kuehne (1880-1968), Screen, c. 1930. Silver, tempera, and gesso screen with floral and foliate decoration, 72 x 60 x 12 inches (182.9 x 152.4 x 30.5 cm). Signed lower right on third panel from left: Max Kuehne. Offered by Avery Galleries at Just Off Madison.

Mark Ostrander of Conner - Rosenkranz, LLC elaborated on their involvement with the event, stating, "Conner - Rosenkranz represents American sculptors who were active from 1850 through the late 20th century. For Just Off Madison, we will be exhibiting a survey of objects including neoclassical busts, bronzes from the late 19th and early 20th century, direct carvings from the modernist period and mid-century constructions. We also have an inventory of works on paper by Americans from 1900-1950. African-American artists are a focus in the gallery at the moment; on view are works by Richmond Barthe, Norman Lewis, Romare Bearden, and Beauford Delaney."

Margaret Brassler Kane (American, 1909-2006), Female Torso, modeled 1932, this example carved ca. 1939. Honduran Mahogany, 23 3/8 x 9 x 6 inches. Signed: M.B. KANE (rear of self base).
