The European-inspired residence, which was designed by the architect Burnham F. Hoyt in 1932, was inhabited by Vernon F. Taylor, an oil tycoon, and his wife, Ann Bonfoey Taylor, a model, a collector of haute couture, and a consummate athlete, who served as an alternate on the Women’s Olympic Ski team. The high-profile couple entertained an array of dignitaries and celebrities at the estate, including Truman Capote, Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, and Prince Philip and Princess Anne of Great Britain.
