Adrien De Melo
French, 1979
"I like to consider objects as simple, sober and warm architecture, which allows their intimate construction, as well as the idea of a possible fiction, to be deciphered in a flash. For me, each project is a time for experimentation and the metaphorization of a beautiful idea. The key is varying the formal limits and techniques of design, architecture and art."
Born in France in 1979, Adrien De Melo lives and works in Paris where he established his studio in 2008. He graduated from the Sorbonne in Art History and learned his manual design skills while working directly with engineers and contractors. With a gift for bridging the conceptal and the technical, he expresses himself within a large framework: object and furniture design, scenography, and interior architecture. He has described his work as "translating the metaphysical into the physical," taking inspiration from natural forms – the human ribcage, as in his SOW desk, or from concepts such as flight, as in the case of his Butterfly Stools and Mirrors.
