Andy Warhol

American, 1928 - 1987
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an American artist, filmmaker, and leading figure in the Pop Art movement. He was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and studied art and design at Carnegie Mellon University before moving to New York City in the early 1950s.

In the 1960s, Warhol began creating paintings and prints featuring everyday objects like soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, and celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. He also created silkscreen prints of newspaper headlines and other images that were highly influential in the development of Pop Art.

Warhol's work was characterized by its bright colors, graphic design, and use of mass-produced images. He also worked in other media, including film, sculpture, and photography, and was a central figure in New York City's avant-garde art scene.

Warhol's work has been the subject of numerous retrospectives and exhibitions, and his influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary artists. He passed away on February 22, 1987, in New York City, at the age of 58.
