Bernard Buffet
French, 1928 - 1999
Bernard Buffet was a French painter and graphic artist known for his distinctive style characterized by somber color palettes, strong lines, and a sense of isolation and loneliness. Buffet was born in Paris in 1928 and began his career as an artist in the 1940s. He quickly gained recognition for his unique style, which was influenced by Expressionism and Surrealism. Buffet's work often depicted bleak and desolate landscapes, as well as haunting figures and portraits. He was particularly interested in exploring themes of death and suffering, and his paintings often had a dark and brooding quality. Despite his success, Buffet was known for his reclusive nature, and he died in 1999 at the age of 71.
