Charlotte Wensley: 2D Abstract Mixed Media Artist

Charlotte Wensley is a 2D abstract mixed media artist based near Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Her artistic journey began at the tender age of four when she created her first large expressive work on the living room wall, using only a limited supply of paper and crayons. This early experience ignited a lifelong passion for art as a means of communication.
As a child, Charlotte spent countless hours absorbed in drawing, but it wasn’t until her late teens, encouraged by her high school art teacher, that she began to explore sculpture and large-scale painting. Initially believing she was destined to be an illustrator, she developed a passion for writing and illustrating stories for children.
After realizing that a Diploma in Advertising was not the right fit, Charlotte attended art college in her twenties, where she discovered a love for mixed media and collage. Her education exposed her to various construction methods, including metalwork, woodwork, and silversmithing, which enriched her artistic practice.
Upon emigrating to Australia from the UK in 2001, she returned to her 2D practice, working primarily with oils and acrylics. Charlotte’s global travels have deeply influenced her visual aesthetic, instilling a love for rich colors, texture, ornamentation, and the interplay between natural and constructed environments.
The diversity of human experiences and the unique narratives that shape personal stories resonate strongly with Charlotte, guiding her creative process as she paints. Her work invites viewers to explore the complexities of life through her vibrant mixed media compositions.
