Cristina “Mitty” Mittermeier (b. 1966, Mexico City) is a globally respected marine biologist turned conservation photographer and visual storyteller. Co-founding the International League of Conservation Photographers in 2005 and later SeaLegacy in 2014, she pioneered the field of conservation photography—using powerful imagery to highlight the fragility and beauty of the world’s oceans.
Trained in biochemical engineering and fine art photography, Mittermeier seamlessly blends scientific insight and photographic craft. Her work—published by National Geographic, TIME, and others—focuses on coastal ecosystems, wildlife, and indigenous communities, evoking a profound sense of connection and urgency.
Her large-scale fine art prints, exhibited internationally in galleries and major exhibitions, reflect a deep narrative on “enoughness”: ethical stewardship rooted in ancestral knowledge and a respectful relationship with nature. Represented by Off-Piste Fine Arts, her photographs continue to inspire global audiences toward conservation and climate action.
