Fernweh Woodworking began in 2015, and I call my role "Designer/Craftsman" because I cherish both the woodworking and design elements of the company. A former Marine Officer and wildland firefighter with a bachelor's degree in business from Purdue University, I stumbled into what I hope will be a lifelong design & woodworking career. I'm self-taught in both respects, and am inspired by the ethical design philosophy and work of Sam Maloof, and I particularly admire the legacy and designs of Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner.
The first few years of the business I was solely focused on producing smaller home decor and giving myself a crash-course woodworking education. In 2017 I began the process of transitioning fully to in-house furniture design & production, which has quickly become my leading passion.
I view myself as just a beginner woodworker and designer, and to some extent I hope to always feel that way; no matter how much you learn, you should always be overwhelmed and excited by the oceans of things yet to be discovered. I hope to do my small part to keep the craft of woodworking not only alive, but fresh.

Collections

In the first quarter of 2020, we launched our brand new Oxbend Collection (www.fernwehwoodworking.com/collections/oxbend-collection)
Born from a desire to create a seating collection that is comfortable, organic, and elegant in its simplicity, the Oxbend collection incorporates subtle hand-shaped tubular curves and classic wedged-tenon leg joinery. Furniture included in this collection includes a dining / valet / occasional chair, bench / settee, and a bar / counter stool.
