Artist Bio: Jane Appleby
Jane Appleby is a talented artist whose work draws profound inspiration from the beauty of the natural world. Her artistic path is a harmonious blend of personal exploration and formal training, reflecting a deep-seated passion for the environments she cherishes. With a meticulous eye for detail, Jane immerses herself in the stunning landscapes of the local mountains, lush forests, and tranquil shores of Galiano Island, striving to capture what she calls the "visual music" of these settings.
Primarily working with oils, acrylics, and watercolors, Jane creates her pieces both en plein air and from her studio in Burnaby. While she began her artistic journey as a self-taught creator, she further refined her skills by obtaining a Fine Arts Technique certificate from Emily Carr University, complementing her Biology degree from Simon Fraser University.
Jane is not just committed to her own artistic practice; she is also dedicated to fostering creativity in others. She has led workshops at renowned institutions such as Vancouver's Place Des Arts, the Okanagan School of Arts, and The Whyte Museum in Banff, as well as on Cunard Cruise Lines. Through her YouTube channel, Jane Appleby Art, she shares her insights and techniques with a global audience. Her literary contributions, including her latest book, "The Purposeful Brush," highlight her dedication to artistic growth and education.
Recognized for her outstanding work, Jane has received numerous accolades, including an Award of Excellence from the Federation of Canadian Artists' Abstract Show in 2012 and second place in the 2020 Plein Air Competition at the McMichael Art Museum. Her art has garnered a diverse international following, with collectors worldwide acquiring her pieces. Jane's work has been exhibited in galleries across Canada, Spain, Monaco, and Italy, and she is proudly represented by several galleries in British Columbia and Alberta, including Mountain Galleries in Whistler, Jasper, and Banff.
