Leslie Stoner

Canadian
Leslie Stoner is a Pacific Northwest–based multimedia artist known for her distinctive “maze” paintings on birch wood panels. Raised in rural Montana and now residing on Whidbey Island, she merges her deep connection to natural environments with meticulous craftsmanship. After earning a BFA in Painting and Photography from Cornish College of the Arts, Stoner initially worked in encaustic before shifting her focus to archival ink and acrylic on raw birch, embracing and celebrating its grain.

Her signature process involves tracing fluid, labyrinthine lines that interact with the wood’s inherent textures—creating organic, meditative compositions. She often overlays botanical shapes like petals, leaves, or kelp forms, resulting in intricate works titled with dual-word cues that mark entry and exit points of each maze.

Stoner’s work—hailed for its calming rhythmic complexity—has been featured by Off-Piste Fine Arts in Whistler and Seattle Art Source, as well as galleries in Sun Valley and Boston. Through her art, she offers viewers a contemplative pause in our busy world.
