Founded on January 25, 1964, initially as "Blue Ribbon Sports," by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, the company officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971. The name Nike derives from the Greek goddess of victory.  Nike markets its diverse array of products under various brands including Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, and iconic lines such as Air Force 1, Nike Dunk, and Air Max. The company also manages subsidiaries like Air Jordan and Converse (brand), reflecting its diverse portfolio which once included Bauer Hockey, Cole Haan, Umbro, and Hurley International.
 
Beyond manufacturing sportswear and equipment, Nike operates retail outlets branded as Niketown and sponsors numerous renowned athletes and sports teams worldwide. Its trademarks "Just Do It" and the iconic Swoosh logo are universally recognized symbols of the brand's ethos and quality.
