R-Way Furniture Company: A Historic Journey from Mattoon Manufacturing to Timeless Legacy | Incollect
Explore the captivating history of R-Way Furniture Company, a prominent furniture manufacturer that originated in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Established in 1881 as the Mattoon Manufacturing Co., the company embarked on a remarkable journey before becoming R-Way Furniture.
In 1942, Mattoon Manufacturing Company revolutionized the furniture industry by opening a chain of nearly a dozen showrooms. This allowed customers to personally experience the exquisite craftsmanship of their products. To further enhance convenience, they also introduced a catalog service, enabling customers to order furniture items for delivery to their homes.
It was in 1949, under new ownership, that Mattoon Manufacturing underwent a transformation and was renamed R-Way Furniture. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of an era characterized by timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship. R-Way Furniture continued to operate under this name until 1992, when production gradually declined.
By 1993, the decline in production reached a critical point, leading to the auctioning of R-Way Furniture Company's plant. Unfortunately, this marked the end of the company's trading journey.
Despite its closure, the legacy of R-Way Furniture endures. The brand's commitment to craftsmanship and quality has made its vintage pieces highly sought after. Each R-Way Furniture piece showcases the skillful artistry and attention to detail that defined the company's rich history.
