Thomas Cole

There was no larger force in American Art than Thomas Cole. Born in England, the artist immigrated to America in 1818 and was a successful landscape painter in the Catskills by 1825. Cole fell in love with the American wilderness and is considered the founding father of the Hudson River School movement.
