The Resolute, under Captain Kellett was part of Belcher's five-ship squadron. It was abandoned in May 1854, and eventually drifted into Baffin's Bay. It was found by a whaler and returned to the Britain. M'Dougall describes how the crew was kept entertained whilst wintering in the Arctic, their sledge journeys and encounters with polar bears, etc.

First edition. 8vo, xl, 530 pp., folding coloured map, 8 coloured lithograph plates, contemporary half calf gilt, spine richly gilt, black morocco lettering piece, wear to corners, discolouration to sides, light foxing to outer margins, a very good copy.
