    George Morrison Reid Henry (British, 1891-1983)
    Collected field studies of English and Rhodesian birds, including: racket-tailed roller, black eagle, steppe buzzard, malachite kingfisher, dabchick, African scops owl and crested barbet
    the majority signed, many dated variously ‘1972-77’, one dated ‘1955’, one dated ‘1956’
    pencil, biro, pen and ink, many with watercolor, some on lined paper, some on colored-paper in a light-brown cloth bound album with title ‘COLLECTED SKETCHBOOKS BY G M REID HENRY’ tooled in gilt on the cover and the spine, approx. 133 sheets 7 x 4 1/8 in. Contains 136 images, some of which are on versos.
    And smaller album 14 ½ x 12 ½ in., overall;
    Together with 25 sketches and 6 notebooks collected in a binding entitled ‘Miscellaneous sketches’

    A very fine collection of late ornithological studies of English and Rhodesian birds, dating from 1955-1977, by entomologist and ornithologist George Morrison Reid Henry.

    GEORGE MORRISON REID HENRY (BRITISH,1891-1983)

    George Morrison Reid Henry was an entomologist and ornithologist in Sri Lanka. He was born at Goatfell Estate, Kandapola, where his father, Charles Reid Henry, managed tea estates.

    One of eleven children was educated at home by his older sisters and showed early talent as an artist. At the age of 16, Henry obtained his first job as a draughtsman and a laboratory assistant in the Ceylon Company of Pearl Fishers. In 1910 he became a draughtsman at the Colombo Museum and was trained by Dr. Joseph Pearson, Director of the Colombo Museum, a zoologist and marine biologist. In July 1913, he was promoted to the newly created post of Assistant in Systematic Entomology at the Colombo Museum, a position he held until his retirement in 1946.
