Current price£1,550.00
A delightfully illustrated set of Austen's six complete novels, comprising: Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion. With illustrations by the Cranford School artist Hugh Thomson (1860-1920) and his follower Charles Edmund Brock (1870-1938).
5 vols, 8vo (19.5 x 13.5 cm); numerous illustrations by Hugh Thomson and Charles Brock including frontispieces, half-titles; the fore-edges of the text blocks have varying degrees of spotting, which have very occasionally encroached on some extreme edges of margins but very few and in the main internally very clean, the plates very bright; near-contemporary binding for, William Brown, Edinburgh [bookseller], in half red morocco over cloth, gilt, some historic wear, to spines, particularly that on Northanger Abbey and Persuasion but very sound, a most attractively illustrated set. -
