Description
Published more than a decade before the landmark Tenreiro monograph edited by Soraia Cals (1998), this volume is regarded as one of the earliest comprehensive publications dedicated to Joaquim Tenreiro's work. Featuring a rare interview with the designer himself, along with archival photographs, drawings, and period documentation, it remains an essential reference for collectors, scholars, museums, and enthusiasts of Brazilian modern design.
First edition of Joaquim Tenreiro: Madeira, Arte e Design, published in Rio de Janeiro in 1985 to accompany the landmark exhibition dedicated to Joaquim Tenreiro, the pioneer of Brazilian modern furniture design.
Organized by Ascânio MMM and Ronaldo do Rego Macedo, the book brings together original furniture sketches, design studies, archival photographs, press articles dating from the 1950s onward, and an extensive interview with Tenreiro conducted in 1985. It offers a rare first-hand account of his philosophy on furniture, craftsmanship, modernism, and the use of Brazilian hardwoods.
Richly illustrated throughout, this publication is regarded as one of the essential early references on Tenreiro's work and Brazilian modern design. Text in Portuguese.
