Lush bird illustrations. First edition of this charming, chromolithographic children's book of stories and poems about birds, from domestic poultry and game birds to kingfishers, owls, and exotic parrots. One of the authors, Lillian Gask (1865-19422) was a prolific children's writer who published around thirty books in her lifetime, many of them on animals.

First edition; oblong quarto, chromolithographic frontispiece and 9 plates, 7 full-page illustrations, smaller illustrations on the titles and throughout the text, contents toned and just a little spotted, mainly at the edges; original pictorial boards, grey cloth backstrip, patterned endpapers, binding a little rubbed and marked with some wear at the extremities, very good condition.
