Description
Gilt-bronze and Tortoiseshell Clock and Barometer set by Gleizes
French, 19th Century
Height 115cm, width 30cm, depth 7cm
In the Louis XV style, this elegant antique clock and barometer set by the French maker Gleizes, based in Paris in the 19th Century, showcases a beautiful combination of gilt-bronze (ormolu) and tortoiseshell inlay. The central enamel dials, signed 'Gleizes / 3 Place Vendome a Paris,' comprise the clock, with Roman numerals, and the barometer with a spiralling mercury reserve below, while further measuring instruments for temperature etc, line the lengths. Beautifully shaped, with delighful, lyre-like curves and forms, the set demonstrates the pure decorative quality of antique Louis XV style works, updated with the skill of 19th century craftsmanship, guaranteed to make outstanding interior additions.
