Egyptian Revival gilt bronze clock set attributed to P. E. F. Herbert
French, 19th Century
Height 69cm, width 35.5cm, depth 20cm

Consisting of a central clock flanked by a pair of lidded vases, this superb clock set is crafted from patinated bronze and is decorated with gilt mounts, itself mounted on a red and black marble base with Pharaoh bust to either side. On top, it is crowned with a sculpture of the Egyptian goddess Isis enthroned. All elements are intricately and superbly adorned, demonstrating the rare majesty of the Egyptian revival style, especially in the hands of a maker of the calibre of Herbert, whose works today are housed in important collections such as the National Gallery in Washington D.C. and the Musèe D'Orsay in Paris.
