Description
Antique French Sèvres-style ormolu mounted porcelain mantel clock
French, 19th Century
Height 50cm, diameter 21cm
This superb 19th century porcelain clock pays homage to the distinguished artistry of the famed Sèvres porcelain manufactory.
The clock is surmounted by a domed cover featuring a finely modelled pinecone finial, highlighted with delicate gilded accents. Below, a band of gadrooning supports a rim detailed with an interlaced motif set against a blue ground, adding a touch of opulence and refinement.
The central body is adorned with three vibrant hand-painted panels, showcasing lively floral and fruit compositions in vivid polychrome. Each scene is bordered by sculpted garlands tied with porcelain ribbons, further ornamented with studs and looped cords gracefully woven through decorative rings.
Positioned at the front is the timepiece, encased in an ornate ormolu frame that complements the porcelain ornamentation. The gilded surround mirrors the garland designs but encircles the clock entirely and features a more prominent ribbon motif. The enamel dial bears the faint signature ‘Jouret à Paris’.
Supporting the structure is a flared foot with gadrooned detailing, accented by white beading and a laurel leaf band. The piece is mounted on square ormolu plinths, each embellished with chased floral medallions.
This refined timepiece exemplifies the elegance and craftsmanship of 19th century French porcelain and would make a distinguished addition to one’s collection.
