Description
Antique Three-Piece Louis XV and Sèvres Style Clock and Ewer Set
French, Late 19th Century
Height 36cm, width 34cm, depth 12cm
Consisting of a central mantel clock and pair of ewers, this beautifully ornate ormolu clock set is designed in the Louis XV revival style, with Sèvres style porcelain aspects.
The central mantel clock features a shaped base, standing on six square and rectangular profile toupie feet. The main clock case is of rectangular shape, decorated with classical architectural details, fruit garland mounts, laurel leaves and finials. The top is surmounted by a vase-form finial, the blue porcelain body of which is painted with a portrait of Marie Antoinette. This matches the various other porcelain cartouches throughout, painted with Rococo style depictions of cherubs and flowers within gilt and blue borders. Of circular form, the clock dial is similarly decorated, with a turquoise blue background and white and gilt oval sections for the hour indices, which feature Roman numerals. In the centre, there is a floral garland with gilt border.
The pair of ewers are conformingly designed, with square ormolu bases, waisted socles and ornately scrolled handles mounted to bulbous blue porcelain bodies. Each ewer is painted on the porcelain sections with flowers and fête galante scenes of couples within pastoral landscapes.
The movement is stamped 'H&F / PARIS / 3801'.
