Description
An Aluminum Violin manufactured by The Aluminum Musical Instrument Company of Ann Arbor Michigan in 1932. This violin is one of a small number of string instruments, including a Double Bass and Cello that were believed to be commissioned by the Interlochen Arts Camp located in Interlochen, north west Michigan. The Interlochen Arts Camp ( formerly known as the National Music Camp was established in 1928) draws young people from around the World to study music, theater, dance, etc. In 1932 the Camp experimented with making the string instruments in aluminum due to breakage of the wooden instruments. The violin surprisingly plays and sounds just like its wooden counterpart. It seems no more were produced after 1932. Aside from appealing to musicians, this makes an impressive decorative object and conversational piece.
