Khmer Bronze Statue of Vishnu Cambodia

Sold Sold
  • Description
Khmer art of Cambodia was heavily influenced by Hinduism before it was infused with Theravada Buddhism in 13th to 14th century. This bronze sculpture depicts male deity Vishnu, the Hindu God of Preserver. The image was cast only with two arms instead of traditional India interpretation of four arms. In his right hand, he holds a conch (sankh), the symbol of the sound; and in his left hand, a mace (gada), the symbol of the notion of individual existence. The image was made as a period replica paying homage to the early Khmer style.
