Description
A French bas-relief pâte-de-verre plaque by Henri Cros, unsigned. Cros was the first artist (of modern times), to experiment with pâte-de-verre and can be considered its true innovator. This plaque exhibits the sculptor's interest in Greek and Hellenic art, highlighted by its frieze-like treatment and mythological subject matter. The crystal-like white background was intended to imitate marble and the salmon color of the figure relates to Cros's preferred color scheme of muted pastels. This is an experimental piece.
