This stunning Mid Century Modern picture frame was realized by the legendary atelier of Barovier e Toso in Murano, Italy circa 1960. It offers a rectangular form with rounded corners in Barovier's signature translucent braided glass offering a subtle texture suggestive of rope. This signature motif- as iconic and instantly recognizable as Bottega Veneta's woven leather or the Compass legs of a Jeanneret chair- recur throughout their designs, including as trademark aspects of their lighting fixtures. This picture frame is secured on four sides by channeled polished brass bands that offers a beautiful material and tonal counterpoint to the clear Murano glass throughout. With its clean modernist lines and impeccable construction, this piece is as much an objet d'art as a functional picture frame. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Mid Century to contemporary. It is in excellent vintage condition.
