Description
French 19th century gilt bronze and jasperware table jardinière
French, Late 19th Century
Height 23cm, width 53cm, depth 25cm
Crafted from gilt bronze and jasperware, this antique French table jardinière is adorned with a selection of classical motifs.
The two longest panels are of a very similar design. A central jasperware plaque depicting a classical figure is flanked by two charming cherubs. Each one is holding two garlands that drape above and below the plaque. Around them are several scrolling and floral motifs, ornate borders, and further draping garlands – all cast from gilt bronze.
The two smaller side panels are centred by a large palmette shape framed by scrolling motifs, garlands, and fruit. The composition is further framed by lavish ormolu edging.
The four uprights are topped by a shaped finial and terminate with four ormolu feet which support the jardinière.
Of an elegant and classical design, this antique planter would be a superb addition to the appropriate space. -
