19th Century Double Sided Carved Wooden Sun
-
Description
An absolutely captivating deeply carved wooden sun sign, double sided, most likely dating to the early 19th century. This piece has spent much of it’s life outside, probably as a pub sign, where it has built up a fabulous patina in the grain.
During it’s lifetime it has lost some of the rays at the very top, and a bracket has been fitted from which it now hangs.
The carving of the faces is wonderful, with deep set features that give the piece an incredible character.
This is a heavy and beautifully decorative piece.
Width 60cm x Height (without chain) 58cm x Depth 11cm
Chain 26cm long. Face without rays 31cm Diameter. -
