An elegant and highly refined example of Japanese cloisonné from the Meiji period (1868–1912), attributed to the esteemed enamel master Kawade Shibatarō, a pivotal figure in the development of modern cloisonné production in Nagoya during the late nineteenth century.

The vase is of graceful baluster form, executed on a soft, luminous cream ground—an especially desirable and technically demanding field within Meiji enameling. The surface is exquisitely decorated with flowering camellia branches, rendered in delicate silver wirework with finely shaded white blossoms and rich green foliage.
