A pair of bronze figures entitled ‘Avant le combat’ and ‘Après le combat’ cast from models by Etienne-Henri Dumaige, each showing a French infantry officer, and the other adjusting the strings of his drum with a plaque stating ‘Après Combat Grenadier de 1792 par Dumaige H.C.’ the other tamping his pipe with his right hand and his rifle propped up into the crook of his arm with a plaque inscribed ‘Avant le Combat Volontaire de 1792 par Dumaige H.C.’ Both signed H. Dumaige on the square base. French, c1880.
