Description
A most unusual Victorian brass private posting box, in the form of a shaped cabinet with two hinged doors, each embellished with a set of initials within a beribboned wreath and with a letter box above, one marked ‘London’ and the other ‘Country’, the central panel stating ‘This is a private Posting Box. Letters and packages posted will be treated in all respects as post letters but proof of the posting will not be accepted in legal proceedings as evidence of receipt by the addressee by order or the Postmaster General’, followed by the nine daily collection times and one at midnight on Sunday, all raised on a black-painted cast iron base with three cabriole front legs and two straight back legs. English, circa 1900.
