Description
A rare pair of large-scale tea cannisters with wooden lids over rounded tin bodies each elaborately decorated with bucolic scenes of a pair of figures in Chinese dress in a garden, with side panels of flower sprays and butterflies on a geometric painted ground. Primary colors are gold on faded reddish pink. Back portion of one lid a later replacement. Originally shop display fittings from a luxury goods and tea merchant such as Fortnum and Mason. English, circa 1860.
