Description
By the distinguished Parisian luxury goods maker Alphonse Giroux. The rectangular form features refined brass inlaid decoration in the Renaissance revival style. The lid with elongated arabesque panels incorporating acanthus leaves and scrolling volutes, framing a central vacant cartouche bordered by symmetrical foliate ornament. Corner palmettes and classical borders complete the decorative scheme. The interior fitted in coromandel wood with removable compartments suited for jewelry or gaming pieces. Brass-bound edges and corners. Push-button lock mechanism. Maker’s plaque inscribed “M’on. Giroux A Paris.” Coromandel base. Paris, circa 1850.
