Description
An Exceptional Berlin KPM (Vienna Style) Iridescent Jeweled Porcelain Vase: "The Spring Dance"
A breathtaking example of Berlin KPM porcelain artistry, this hand-painted vase, titled "The Spring Dance" (Frühlingsreigen), captures the whimsy and elegance of late 19th to early 20th-century design. Bearing the distinguished blue sceptre mark, iron-red beehive mark, pattern number 8342, and impressed AB2, this masterpiece is signed by the celebrated artist Wagner.
The vase’s graceful baluster form is adorned with an intricately gadrooned rim and showcases an iridescent finish that shimmers with opulent radiance. The hand-painted scenes are captivating depictions of children engaged in "The Spring Dance," a joyous celebration of music and movement set within a lush, bucolic landscape. Each detail is rendered with exquisite precision, breathing life into this enchanting vignette. Wagner’s masterful technique is evident in the delicate interplay of light, shadow, and color, which adds depth and vibrancy to the scene, making it a visual masterpiece.
Encircling this lively tableau is a luxurious gilt-seeded surround, accentuated by radiant turquoise "jewels" that evoke the brilliance of fine gemstones. The decoration continues with vibrant stylized flowers, elegant trellis patterns, and intricate scrollwork, all meticulously applied to heighten the vase’s visual allure. The composition rests on a conforming socle, completing the design with a sense of balance and refinement.
This exceptional vase epitomizes the celebrated craftsmanship of KPM, seamlessly blending artistic expression with luxurious materials. A true collector’s treasure, it stands as a timeless testament to the charm and sophistication of hand-painted porcelain art from a golden era.
26.5" high x 10.5" wide
Very good condition. In two parts with the vase able to be removed from the socle, overall with some minor wear, lacking some raised gilt 'jewels' throughout. Exceptional hand-painted vase with illustrious scenes. Probably one of the best pieces of Berlin porcelain from this time period. -
