Description
Antique German silver mounted dog-shaped corkscrew cane
Continental, Late 19th Century
Height 92cm, width 11cm, depth 4cm
Crafted in the late 19th century, this remarkable cane combines artistry with practicality.
The handle is expertly fashioned from silver in the form of a bulldog's head, showcasing an expressive snout with bared teeth and an intense, angry glare. The design is further enhanced by a pointed hat, which extends outward to form a crook-shaped handle, while a scarf tied at the collar adds an extra layer of detail. The meticulous craftsmanship highlights intricate touches, such as the realistic texture of the fur.
Innovatively, the handle unscrews to reveal a corkscrew, adding a functional twist to this elegant accessory.
A thick silver band below the handle serves to elevate the overall design, while the light-coloured wooden shaft tapers to a ferrule at the base. The silverwork is marked with the ‘800’ stamp alongside another hallmark.
This versatile cane, with its creative design and functionality, would be a captivating addition to any collector's assortment.
