Description
This stunning Art Deco coat/ umbrella rack was realized in France circa 1930. It features a streamlined demilune base in lustrous polished chrome- ideal for storing umbrellas from which two volumetric rectangular supports in the same material ascend culminating in a race track open form tier at top. Midway up the body there is a crosshatched rack (intended to support the umbrella handles) with curved volumetric rectangular streamlined embellishments cantilevering outwards. A streamlined supports attaches at a perpendicular to the centerpoint of these demilune forms to create the perimeter of this tier with a open form open form crosshatched network of chrome rods occupying the interior. There is a large arched plain mirror in the center of the piece with a streamlined top (reiterating the formal leitmotif omnipresent throughout the piece's design). The top features circular knob details which offers both a formal contrast to the geometric lines found elsewhere in the piece as well as a functional purpose- i.e. hanging coats. With its great versatility as a functional design object, as well as its clean modernist lines and impeccable construction, this piece would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Art Deco to contemporary. It is in excellent vintage condition.
