Description
Pair of antique floral opaline glass vases by Baccarat
French, Mid-19th Century
Height 40cm, diameter 17cm
This superb pair of opaline glass vases is by the esteemed French manufacturer Baccarat and dating to the mid-1800s. Displaying exceptional craftsmanship and artistic finesse, these vases are a beautiful example of 19th century decorative glasswork.
Shaped in an elegant amphora form, the vases are meticulously hand-painted with sophisticated botanical motifs. The design features delicate garlands of soft pink peonies, gracefully draped across the surface and highlighted with intricate gilt and blue detailing. Scattered among the floral arrangements are pairs of birds, depicted with equal charm and refinement. Above the avian elements are lively red scrolls adorned with additional blue and gold flourishes, adding movement and visual interest to the composition.
The necks of the vases are embellished with finely gilded bands and a decorative frieze of stylised acanthus leaf patterns with red accents. In contrast to the richly adorned upper section, the lower portion of each vase remains largely unembellished, creating a pleasing visual balance between ornamentation and simplicity.
Near the base, a red dotted border and additional gilded rings encircle the foot, completing the vases with a refined and cohesive finish.
These decorative pieces are not only a testament to Baccarat’s renowned quality and style but also offer versatile charm. Whether placed in a contemporary or traditional setting, this pair of vases adds a distinctive and elegant touch to any interior.
