Baroque Studded Leather Document Box
-
Description
Fine early 18th Century document/travel box having fine studwork decoration comprising small and large brass tacks and steel rosettes, forming flowering urns and strapwork motifs, with original hinges and other hardware.
While traveling trunks of this form have survived in relatively large numbers, smaller boxes of this type are scarce, although not surprising as traveling nobles would require many travel trunks when they and their entourage decamped from one place to another, they probably needed few smaller chests for documents and other valuables. -
