This Bembe Biteki fetish masterfully expresses the full power of the ancestor it represents. It commands attention through the contrast between the strength of the pose and the body’s mass, and the delicacy of the features, anatomical details, and scarifications covering the abdomen. The piece boasts a superb patina from use, in reddish-brown and dark brown, shining on the raised areas. Remarkably rare, it has retained the loincloth with which Bembé statuettes were traditionally adorned.
