In the past, amateur entomologists and scientists often collected butterflies. For example, in the Victorian age, it was a wide spread educational leisure activity. This restored and pest-free collection has about 3.400 butterflies that have been dried and pinned. Thirty percent of the species are European. The origin of the remaining specimens lies, inter alia, in Africa, Madagascar, Formosa, India, Japan, Sri lanka, South America, the Solomon Islands, Moa, Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Philipinnes, North America, Indonesia, Sumatra and Malaysia. -
