Description
French Art Deco Chevron Vase by Bourgogne S.P. – Art Deco Collection
French Art Deco ceramics vase, this bold and highly sculptural vase by Bourgogne S.P. offers a rare opportunity. Produced in the late 1920s or early 1930s in the Burgundy region of France, the piece exemplifies the architectural ambition and modernist energy that defined the era.
Its form is dynamic and commanding, with deeply carved chevron and angular reliefs that wrap around the body in a rhythmic, stepped pattern. This isn’t mere surface decoration—it’s sculpted geometry in motion. The vase is finished in a warm ochre-gold glaze with nuanced tonal variations and fine crackle throughout, giving the surface richness and depth. The interplay of matte and gloss, shadow and light, gives this piece an almost metallic presence under display lighting.
The base is clearly impressed with the rare Bourgogne S.P. hallmark, formed as a stylized amphora encircled by the name and accompanied by a "Made in France" stamp. While Bourgogne S.P. remains lesser-known outside of France, their limited production and regionally focused output make their pieces increasingly collectible. This is particularly true for works like this, large-scale, geometric, and unapologetically Deco.
This vase offers both visual impact and historical credibility. It holds its own among works by Primavera, Saint Clément, and Mougin, but with an edge of discovery that makes it all the more rewarding. - More Information
