Carved Marble Figure of Classical Young Lady
Continental School, ca. 19th c.
Marble
Inscribed on base: A. Hesse – Possibly Alexandre Hesse (1806-1879), Paris, France.
Over-all in fine condition. Recently cleaned with minor restoration to right hand finger.
Provenance: Barbara Israel Garden Antiques, Katonah, NY; The collection of Aso O. Tavitian, New York and Stockbridge.
This carved marble sculpture depicts a classically attired young woman or nymph seated on a tree stump, poised as if gathering wild flowers in the wilderness.
