Description
This striking ceramic vase designed by Charles Catteau has he refined artistry of Belgian Art Deco ceramics from the 1920s. The elongated form provides an elegant canvas for a stylized floral composition, where interlocking geometric blossoms and sweeping leaf motifs create a rhythmic surface. The design is carefully balanced, allowing the pattern to flow continuously around the body of the vase, a hallmark of Catteau’s best work for Boch Frères Keramis.
The palette is especially vivid and sophisticated, combining deep cobalt blue with turquoise accents, creamy whites, and warm ochre .These colors are applied using enamel slip over a glazed surface, giving the decoration both depth and luminosity .The stylized floral forms reflect the era’s fascination with abstraction, symmetry, and the combination of organic motifs with modern graphic design.
Catteau became the Design Director of Boch Keramis in 1907 when they were seeking a very new approach for their company. He introduced a distinct style that earned a coveted space in the Paris Exposition des Arts Decoratifs in Paris in 1925.
Under Catteau’s direction, Boch Frères achieved recognition for ceramics that united artistic innovation with technical excellence. Vases such as this were produced in limited runs and intended as decorative art . Today, this piece stands as a highly collectible example of Art Deco ceramic design, - More Information
