Description
EMMANUEL FREMIET
French, 1824-1910
"Chien Levrier"
Patinated bronze | signed E. Fremiet in naturalistic base | cold-stamped 85, a Charles More cast
Item # 411PRB18X
An exquisite model of a standing greyhound by Emmanuel Fremiet, this was originally debuted as a pair of greyhounds with the present figure being the larger of the two dogs. The single greyhound model is quite scarce and is a powerful example of this proud muscular animal. The casting quality and attention to detail is above reproach, the surface rich with a fine texture captured almost entirely directly from the underlying mold, thereafter finely chiseled and chased to result in a brilliant surface throughout. It is retains an original chemical patination. The naturalistic base is signed in block lettering x E. FREMIET and is cold-stamped by Fremiet's neighborhood founder, Charles More "85". Literature & Further Reading: "Emmanuel Fremiet: La main et le multiple", Catherine Chevillot, 1970, p. 82-83, fig.
