Chinese ormolu and cloisonné enamel vase for the Islamic market

Crafted in China, this fine ormolu and cloisonné enamel bowl was intended for export to Islamic markets. Sitting on three gilt bronze feet, the body of the bowl is of bulbous shape, featuring two gilt looped handles. The body itself is covered in colourful cloisonné enamel designs, with various flowers, vines and scrolling motifs against a turquoise background, with a red floral rim. The front and back are also adorned with ormolu mounts inscribed with Thuluth Arabic script, evidencing its production for the Islamic market.
The bowl is signed in traditional Chinese script to the underside. -
